In the quiet months of 2020, as the world retreated inward, we glimpsed an inflection point in machine intelligence. Access to GPT-3 was still invitation-only when we began exploring its boundaries, testing how far we could push algorithmic imagination.
The result was a public-facing scenario generator that served as both oracle and mirror – producing thousands of possible futures while reflecting back our collective hopes and anxieties about AI. What began as an experiment in technological capability evolved into an unexpected lens on human nature.
Ten thousand scenarios later, the project had drawn attention from unexpected quarters. A business school adopted it for formal futures training. A pro-Putin Telegram channel discovered it, flooding the system with politically-charged futures until we temporarily closed access. Each interaction revealed something about how different groups sought to shape tomorrow's narrative.
